What is a BMI and what is my BMI?

BMI stands for Body Mass Index. It is used to calculate your body fat percentage based on your height and your weight.

If you google BMI you will get several results that help you to calculate your BMI and find out if you are underweight, normal weight, overweight, or obese. According to http://www.nhlbisupport.com/bmi/ underweight is a BMI less than 18.5, normal weight is 18.5-24.9, overweight is 25-29.9, and obesity is 30 or more.

Currently my BMI is ranging between 27.4 and 28.2 which is a big reason for my weightloss decision, seeing as I easily fall into the "overweight" category.

I personally don't know how much I want to rely on a BMI to determine my state of health because I know from the education that I have had that muscle weighs more than fat. I'm not saying that I am a bodybuilder or anything, but I am fairly muscular.

I am bound and determined to find a more accurate fat calculator but until I do, I will be using the BMI.
